The body of a man found near Ontario, Oregon, has been positively identified as an 88-year-old Caldwell man missing since early March, the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office told the Statesman.
The body of Richard VonDach was found in a ditch a short distance away from his abandoned and burned car by an Owyhee Irrigation District worker on the morning of April 26, Malheur County Sheriff Brian Wolfe told the Statesman. The body was positively identified as VonDach’s on Tuesday, Wolfe said.
A partial license plate was discovered near the vehicle and was determined to be that of VonDach’s vehicle. The vehicle appeared to have gotten stuck, Wolfe said.
The Oregon State Police Arson Unit investigated the scene and determined there was no evidence of foul play, Wolfe said. Wolfe also confirmed that the body itself was not burned.
VonDach was last seen leaving his accountant’s office on March 9, according to previous Statesman reporting.
