Motorcyclist dies in crash after falling over I-184 Connector’s median

A 39-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday when he was thrown over the median wall on eastbound Interstate 184, near the River Street exit in Boise, according to Idaho State Police.

Around 6:30 p.m., Seth Wilson, of Boise, was driving a 2013 BMW S1000RR sport bike eastbound on I-184 near milepost 4 when he lost control and struck the barrier on the median side. Wilson was thrown from the motorcycle and over the median barrier wall, where there is a gap between the eastbound and westbound interstate, according to ISP.

Wilson came to rest on South 16th Street, near Rhodes Park, where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet.

Wilson’s death only adds to the usually high number of motorcycle fatalities in Idaho in 2018, bringing the death toll to 34 as of Sunday, according to the Idaho Transportation Department’s preliminary data. By comparison, on the same day last year, 24 motorcyclists had been killed in Idaho.

With three months still left in the year, Idaho is approaching its 2009 record of 35 fatal motorcycle crashes in one year. ITD spokesman Bill Kotowski said motorcyclists are urged to take training courses on motorcycle safety, even if longtime bikers just want to refresh their skills.

The Idaho STAR, or Skills Training Advantage for Rider, program offers instructional courses for motorcyclists of different skill-levels to reduce the number of crashes. More information about Idaho STAR’s resources can be found at idahostar.org.
