The countdown to cookies is afoot. But only if you know the right people.
Jan. 12 — or 7 hours, 32 minutes and 35 seconds as of this writing — marks the beginning of Girl Scout cookie presales for Idaho’s Girl Scout of Silver Sage Council. Yes, people, it’s nearly time for Thin Mints, Tagalongs and Samoas.
There is a catch, though. You won’t be able to buy the cookies outside of your local grocery store or online; that won’t happen until Feb. 23. Instead, you need to know a Girl Scout, who will take down your orders and ensure their delivery on Feb. 23.

According to Silver Sage Council spokeswoman Erin Gorringe, the Girl Scout S’mores cookie, which was first introduced last year, sold out in presales before the general public was able to purchase them.
The council serves more than 4,000 Girl Scouts from McCall down to Duck Valley, Nevada, to east Oregon all the way to east Idaho. Different councils across the United States begin cookie sales and presales at different times.
