You can lessen your Nampa Library fines — and help others — in December

If you’ve let those Nampa Public Library fines stack up, you can cut what you owe with a donation.

’Tis the season of forgiveness — at least at the Nampa Public Library. It will again offer its Food for Fines, a program that lets you lessen your book fines for overdue books by donating food to Nampa Care House.

(This does not include lost or damaged items or collection fees.)

The program is a collaboration with Nampa’s Church of the Nazarene, which operates the pantry along with other programs through Nampa First, its outreach division.

Here’s how it works:

Starting Friday, Dec. 1., you can get $1 off your fine for each canned or other non-perishable, unexpired food item you bring to library’s borrower’s service desk.

You can donate up to 10 items each day through Dec. 31.
