Lots of candidates in this year’s Treasure Valley city elections
At this point, it’s impossible to know how serious most of the candidates in the Treasure Valley’s city elections are.
The one thing we do know: There are a lot of them. Boise, the biggest city in Idaho, will see more turnover on the City Council this year than in any other election cycle since the Brent Coles scandal. A total of 13 candidates filed paperwork to run for seats on the council before the filing deadline at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Two of those seats are open, as longtime Councilwoman Maryanne Jordan and Councilman Ben Quintana aren’t running for re-election. T.J. Thomson, the lone incumbent in this election, has three challengers.
Other city elections drew plenty of candidates, too. Nine candidates are running for City Council in Nampa, and Mayor Bob Henry, who’s up for re-election, has two challengers.
Meridian has a total of seven candidates for three City Council seats.
Ten candidates are running for seats on the Caldwell City Council, and two are running for mayor, including incumbent Garret Nancolas.
Eagle’s City Council elections drew six candidates.
Election Day is Nov. 7.
