Potentially toxic algae found in water sample will close down popular Boise pond
Potentially toxic algae blooms that can cause death if ingested have caused the smaller of two ponds at Esther Simplot Park to close.
Chemical treatment is being used to rid the water of the algae, the Boise Parks and Recreation Department said in a release Wednesday.
The main pond at Esther Simplot Park will remain open, as will nearby Quinn’s Pond.
Parkgoers are asked to avoid wading or swimming in the water. Dogs are not allowed at either Quinn’s or the Simplot ponds due to high levels of E.coli found earlier this summer that caused closures. Much of the bacteria was found to have come from dog feces.
