Don’t need New Year’s to set a fitness goal: Get out on the road with these events

Saint Alphonsus partnered with Bandanna Running & Walking in 2012 to kick off a new, grassroots, all-levels, low-pressure, highly social fitness event. Meet Me Monday, which takes place every week, rain or shine, was a success. It’s expanded beyond Boise to Caldwell and Kuna and is marking its 5th year of getting people moving.

The U.S. — and the world — will mark National and Global Running Day on Wednesday, June 7.

It’s a great day to continue your fitness routine, or start a new one. Two local fitness events, the annual St. Luke’s FitOne and Meet Me Monday, can help.

St. Luke’s FitOne

National (Global) Running Day kicks off the 2017 registration launch for St. Luke’s FitOne. The annual 5K, 10K and half marathon run/walk will take place on Sept. 23 through Downtown Boise, ending with the Finish Festival in Ann Morrison Park.

Organizers will hold a special registration event from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, at Axiom at The Village, 3505 E. Monarch Sky Lane, #202, in Meridian and during the same hours at Axiom ParkCenter, 801 ParkCenter Blvd. in Boise.

You’ll be able to register for any of the races for a discounted price of $20 plus be eligible for prizes, including iFit activity trackers, Axiom memberships, running shoes and more. Discounted registration pricing will also be available online at fitoneboise.org on June 7.

Axiom Fitness will donate $1 for each registration to St. Luke’s Children’s up to $10,000.

Note, FitOne is also looking for volunteers to help out on race day. Find more (including fitness and nutrition tips) online at fitoneboise.org or email fitonevolunteer@slhs.org or call 208-381-2221.

If you cannot find the answer to your question, email fitoneinfo@slhs.org.

Meet Me Monday

Meet Me Monday is a free weekly family-friendly walk/run program that meets every Monday year-round (rain, shine, holidays, monsoons, malaise, whatever), co-hosted by Saint Alphonsus and Bandanna Running & Walking.

Participants sign in, then choose a walk or run route of their choice. Everyone meets back up afterward for announcements and prize drawings. Participants receive prizes at the eight, 16, 50 and 100 weeks participation marks.

Meet Me Monday is a great way to start a fitness routine.

The program began in Downtown Boise five years ago, but now takes place every Monday at four different spots: Boise Towne Square (the program’s sole morning event beginning at 7:45 a.m.); Downtown Boise beginning at Bandanna Running & Walking (5th and Main at 5:15 p.m.); Caldwell beginning at Stewart’s Bar & Grill (2805 Blaine St. at 5:15 p.m.); and Kuna at the Kuna Visitors Center (at the intersection of Avalon Street, Linder Road and Swan Falls Road at 5:30 p.m.).

Join your fellow lovers of sweat, city sidewalks and esprit de corps at the Meet Me Monday 5th Anniversary event, 5:15 p.m. Monday, June 12, at Bandanna Running & Walking.
