Idaho health officials report 1,444 new COVID-19 cases since Friday and 38 deaths

Idaho health officials reported 1,444 new COVID-19 cases since Friday as well as 38 new deaths, nearly half of which were reported in a single north Idaho county, data showed.

According to COVID data from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, 17 of the 38 new deaths reported were in Kootenai County, which is home to Coeur d’Alene. It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the spike in reported deaths.

Other deaths reported over the weekend and Monday were in the following counties: Ada (4 new, 777 total), Bannock (3 new, 188 total), Benewah (2 new, 25 total), Bonner (3 new, 100 total), Canyon (5 new, 519 total), Idaho (1 new, 36 total), Power (1 new, 15 total), Shoshone (1 new, 60 total) and Washington (1 new, 47 total).

Officials also removed one reported death from Bonneville County (212 total).

In all, Idaho has reported 3,571 deaths from COVID-19 since March of 2020. Officials have also reported 292,314 COVID cases, 12,702 hospitalizations related to the disease and 2,133 intensive care unit admissions. More than 129,000 people are presumed recovered from COVID-19.
