Boise School District reports new COVID case; 116 infections reported statewide
Idaho reported 116 new coronavirus infections on Sunday, according to numbers reported by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and regional health districts.
Five counties reported double-digit case increases: Ada (22 new, 11,338 total), Bonneville (22 new, 2,010 total), Canyon (26 new, 7,432 total), Madison (15 new, 385 total) and Twin Falls (16 new, 1,821 total).
Ada County’s seven-day moving average remained at 42.7 cases per day thanks to a spike in cases earlier in the week. Previously, the moving average had fallen to the 30s. Meanwhile, Canyon County’s seven-day moving average jumped from 24.7 cases per day to 27.4 after an erratic week in which the county at times reported single-digit increases. Still, that’s a marked improvement from its mid-July average of 170 new cases per day.
Several other counties reported new cases Sunday: Blaine (1 new, 604 total), Cassi (2 new, 576 total), Elmore (1 new, 255 total), Fremont (1 new, 142 total), Gem (1 new, 245 total), Jerome (3 new, 636 total), Payette (7 new, 718 total) and Washington (5 new, 311 total).
Eastern Idaho Public Health removed some cases from the total reported by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Saturday: Clark (-1, 25 total), Custer (-4, 46 total) and Lemhi (-1, 54 total).
The state reported an additional 2,333 tests on Sunday, bringing the total number of tests since the start of the pandemic to 289,163. Since March, 34,503 Idahoans have tested positive for COVID-19, and 20,304 of them are presumed to be recovered. The state also reported 25 “probable” cases on Sunday, bringing the total number of probable cases to 3,123.
To date, 441 Idahoans have died of COVID-19. No new deaths were reported Sunday.
Boise School District adds one new case
The Boise School District added one new confirmed coronavirus case to its data spreadsheet on Sunday. One case was announced at Riverglen Junior High, also known as the Treasure Valley Math and Science Center. It’s the first reported case for the school and the 14th for the district since Aug. 17.
No other details about the case were provided.

Overall hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 1,718 hospitalizations of people with COVID-19, 443 admissions to the ICU and 2,565 health care workers infected. Hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.
St. Luke’s Health System: As of Sept. 19, the health system was reporting 35 patients in its hospitals with confirmed COVID-19 out of 386 patients overall. The health system reported a 14-day coronavirus test positivity rate of 7%.
Saint Alphonsus Health System: As of Sept. 19, the health system was reporting 20 patients in its hospitals with confirmed COVID-19 out of 329 patients overall. The health system reported a 14-day coronavirus test positivity rate of 8.7%.
Boise School District: The district says the following schools have reported confirmed COVID-19 cases among students or staff since Aug. 17: Adams Elementary (2 cases), Boise Online School (1), Borah High (4), Hillcrest Elementary (1), Maple Grove Elementary (2), Riverglen Junior High/Treasure Valley Math and Science Center (1), Roosevelt Elementary (1), South Junior High (1), West Junior High (1).
Testing totals: At the end of the day Saturday, Health and Welfare reported that 289,163 people had been tested statewide. About 12% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
