COVID-19 begins to reach residential students at Boise State, data update shows
Boise State University reported 42 new COVID-19 cases in its weekly update Friday — including 14 among residential students.
Previously, the school had reported only three cases involving residential students in its data tracker.
Boise State is using 14 of its 115 isolation beds that are available to campus residents who need to isolate.
The 42 cases reported for Sept. 4-10 include three faculty or staff and 25 off-campus students.
The case total was an increase from last week’s 32 and the previous week’s eight.
Boise State began classes Aug. 24. The cases reported Friday would have been identified roughly two weeks after students returned to campus.
Boise State lists its campus population as 14,696, which includes campus residents, students who take at least one in-person class and faculty and staff who are working on campus. So in the last two weeks, Boise State has reported 5.04 cases per 1,000 people. That’s similar to Payette County (5.1), which is the only Treasure Valley county still in the “red” (highest) category of community spread. The rate for Ada County is 1.5.
