Idaho reports about 150 new COVID-19 cases Sunday; only 3 counties report double digits
Idaho reported 152 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, with only three counties adding double-digit numbers of new daily cases, according to data from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and regional health districts.
Ada, Canyon and Payette counties, respectively, added 30, 75 and 12 cases Sunday. Those numbers came as daily case counts in Ada County continue to slowly decline and as Payette County has emerged as a new hot spot, averaging nearly 18 new cases per day over the last week. To date, Ada County has 10,372 total COVID-19 cases, while Canyon County has 6,805 and Payette County 581.
Several other counties reported a few new cases each on Sunday: Blaine (1 new, 587 total), Bonneville (4 new, 1,449 total), Cassia (1 new, 529 total), Custer (2 new, 29 total), Elmore (1 new, 232 total), Gooding (3 new, 196 total), Jefferson (3 new, 293 total), Jerome (1 new, 532 total), Kootenai (1 new, 2,152 total), Madison (2 new, 198 total), Minidoka (2 new, 517 total), Owyhee (3 new, 275 total), Twin Falls (8 new, 1,506 total) and Washington (3 new, 253 total).
As of Sunday, 253,702 tests have been completed statewide. Since the start of the pandemic, 29,644 Idaho residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Officials report that 14,712 people have recovered from the disease. Health and Welfare also reported eight new “probable” cases, bringing the state total to 2,311.
DAILY DETAILS
Overall hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 1,369 hospitalizations because of the coronavirus, 375 admissions to the ICU and 2,047 health care workers who have been infected. Hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.
St. Luke’s Health System: As of Aug. 30, the hospital was reporting a 14-day coronavirus testing positivity rate of 7%, with 32 patients hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 out of 369 patients overall.
Saint Alphonsus Health System: As of Aug. 30, the hospital was reporting a 14-day coronavirus positivity testing rate of 16.8%, with 53 patients hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 out of 312 patients overall.
Boise School District: The district says the following schools have reported confirmed COVID-19 cases among students or staff since Aug. 17: Adams Elementary (2 cases), Boise Online School (1), Borah High (2), Hillcrest Elementary (1), Roosevelt Elementary (1) and West Junior High (1).
Testing totals: At the end of the day Saturday, Health and Welfare reported that 253,702 tests had been completed statewide. About 11.7% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
