Idaho reports 8 new coronavirus deaths; Ada County passes 10,000 total confirmed cases
Idaho continued a dayslong downward trend in new daily coronavirus cases, though officials at the same time reported multiple new coronavirus-related deaths Monday.
Idaho’s health districts and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reported 195 new cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, as well as eight deaths. Two of the deaths were reported in Ada County, one in Canyon County, three in Kootenai County and two in Shoshone County. To date, 315 Idahoans have died of COVID-19 — more than a third of them in Ada County.
Ada County also passed a grim milestone Monday, exceeding 10,000 total infections since its first on March 13. The county reported 77 new infections for a total of 10,021. Canyon County remains at a distant second for total cases. It added 21 new cases on Monday, bringing the county total to 6,472.
Bannock, Bonneville, Kootenai, Latah and Nez Perce counties each added double digits of new cases. Bannock reported 10 cases (566 total), Bonneville reported 15 (1,292 total), Kootenai reported 11 (2,058 total), Latah reported 15 (183 total) and Nez Perce reported 11 (222 total).
Multiple counties also subtracted some cases from Sunday’s totals. On weekends, Eastern Idaho Public Health is the only health district to report individual numbers. All others are reported via the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, which can lead to discrepancies. The counties that subtracted cases on Monday were: Boise (-1, 44 total), Caribou (-1, 33 total), Cassia (-1, 517 total), Custer (-1, 17 total), Elmore (-1, 220 total), Idaho (-1, 38 total), Jefferson (-2, 266 total), Lemhi (-1, 49 total) and Madison (-2, 176 total).
The following Idaho counties also added new cases on Monday: Bear Lake (2 new, 37 total), Benewah (5 new, 90 total), Bingham (8 new, 396 total), Bonner (5 new, 196 total), Clearwater (1 new, 20 total), Franklin (1 new, 49 total), Fremont (1 new, 89 total), Gooding (1 new, 175 total), Jerome (2 new, 507 total), Lewis (1 new, 7 total), Minidoka (2 new, 491 total), Payette (4 new, 503 total), Power (5 new, 103 total), Shoshone (2 new, 183 total), Teton (2 new, 104 total), Twin Falls (3 new, 1,442 total) and Washington (1 new, 242 total).
Since the start of the pandemic, 28,064 Idaho residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Officials report 13,081 people have recovered from the disease. IDHW also reported 43 new “probable” cases, bringing the state total to 2,081.
