Cases of COVID-19 spike in Ada again; four new deaths raise Idaho’s death toll to 127
Ada County reported three new deaths and 168 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus Tuesday, extending its state-leading cases total to 5,823 and its death toll to 36, according to Central District Health.
Canyon County also reported 168 new cases and its 20th death related to COVID-19 on Tuesday, marking Idaho’s deadliest day since five deaths were reported on July 17. Canyon trails only Ada with 3,381 confirmed cases.
The Southwest District Health Board of Health will hold a special meeting at the Canyon County courthouse at 10 a.m. Thursday so board members can offer recommendations for slowing the spread of the virus in conjunction with the COVID-19 Health Alert Level system the district recently unveiled. The meeting was originally scheduled for last Thursday but was postponed twice due to safety concerns.
In all, Idaho has lost 127 residents since the pandemic began and 14,847 confirmed cases have been reported.
The spike in cases in Ada comes a day after the county reported just 53 — it’s fewest since adding 44 on June 27. It was also the first time Idaho’s most populated county reported fewer than 100 cases since July 2.
On Tuesday, Idaho’s seven health districts reported 463 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. It’s the eighth time in the past nine days that at least 400 cases were reported.
Eastern Idaho Public Health’s Board of Health also voted Tuesday to mandate masks in Bonneville County, according to a press release. The order also banned gatherings of more than 150 people. EIPH previously took the same action in Teton County.
