Idaho’s 14-day moving average of coronavirus cases hits highest point since reopening
Idaho’s seven health districts have reported at least 59 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus for the third straight day.
There were 59 confirmed cases added statewide Wednesday, along with 31 new probables. That comes on the heels of 74 new cases Tuesday and 66 on Monday, increasing the Gem State’s 14-day moving average to 45.43 cases — the highest it’s been since the reopening process began with Stage 1 on May 1.
During the current 14-day window of Stage 4 (June 10-23), Idaho has averaged 51.8 new cases per day, which includes confirmed and probable cases.
New confirmed cases were reported in Ada (28 new, 912 total), Bannock (3 new, 66 total), Benewah (1 new, 12 total), Bonner (3 new, 10 total), Bonneville (1 new, 58 total), Canyon (2 new, 340 total), Caribou (1 new, 6 total), Cassia (2 new, 131 total), Jerome (1 new, 184 total), Kootenai (2 new, 105 total), Madison (1 new, 20 total), Minidoka (2 new, 91 total), Twin Falls (7 new, 416 total), and Washington (5 new, 61 total) counties.
Idaho has announced a total of 3,255 confirmed cases, and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reports that 3,013 cases are “presumed recovered.”
Possible exposure at bar in Victor
Eastern Idaho Public Health says a person contagious with COVID-19 may have unknowingly exposed others to the coronavirus at the West Side Yard on June 13 in Victor.
The person was at the bar from 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., and anyone there during that time frame is advised to monitor themselves for any of the following symptoms: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches, sore throat, headache, fatigue, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, congestion or runny nose, or a new loss of taste or smell. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.
Anyone who develops any of these symptoms is advised to contact their health care provider.
EIPH was not able to identify all individuals who may have been exposed to the confirmed case at West Side Yard, which is why the health district made a notification to the public.
West Side Yard has been cooperative in the investigation, EIPH said, and all employees who were potentially exposed on June 13 have been instructed to isolate in accordance with CDC guidelines.
“COVID-19 is present in our communities. In fact, all of the counties within EIPH’s region with active cases include documented community transmission. That means when someone tests positive for COVID-19, we have not been able to determine the source of their exposure to the virus, which is true for this most recent case in Teton County,” EIPH District Diretor Geri Rackow said in a press release.
“Interactions with others, especially those that occur in close contact without wearing cloth face coverings, puts individuals at greater risk for being exposed and potentially becoming infected with COVID-19. This is why we cannot let our guard down, but must continue to practice preventive measures to protect ourselves and others until this pandemic is over.”
