Idaho adds one new coronavirus-related death, hits 3,000 confirmed cases benchmark

Idaho’s total number of confirmed coronavirus cases surpassed 3,000 on Friday.

There were 44 new confirmed cases reported Friday between 15 counties, which pushed Idaho’s total to 3,022 cases.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare announced a new death from COVID-19 in Jerome County. Case-specific details were not provided, but it is the third death in the county and the 87th in the state.

The list of counties with community transmission grew by one to 25. According to Southeastern Idaho Public Health, Caribou County’s first documented case of community transmission occurred in a female in her 20s.

New cases were added in Ada (7 new, 811 total), Adams (1 new, 4 total), Bannock (1 new, 54 total), Bingham (1 new, 25 total), Bonneville (1 new, 50 total), Canyon (2 new, 327 total), Caribou (1 new, 4 total), Cassia (7 new, 117 total), Franklin (3 new, 13 total), Jerome (1 new, 176 total), Kootenai (3 new, 97 total), Madison (1 new, 19 total), Minidoka (8 new, 86 total), Twin Falls (6 new, 398 total) and Washington (1 new, 45 total) counties.

There are 330 “probable cases” in the state, an increase of 12 from Thursday. Health and Welfare reports that 2,776 cases are “presumed recovered.”

Friday’s combined 56 cases (44 confirmed, 12 probable) marks the fifth day with 50-plus new cases in June. There were only three such days from April 11 through May 31.

Long-term care facilities

On Friday, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare posted its weekly update on COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care facilities.

Overall, there have been 30 outbreaks throughout Idaho totaling 304 cases. Of those cases, 162 are still active between 12 facilities. There have been 53 deaths among nine facilities.

The facilities with ongoing cases among residents or staff are The Bridge at Post Falls, Life Care Center of Lewiston, Bennett Hills Rehab & Care Center in Gooding, The Canyons in Twin Falls, Bridgeview Estates in Twin Falls, Desano Place in Jerome, Monte Vista Hills in Pocatello, Cottages of Weiser, Garden Plaza of Valley View in Boise, Harmony Place in Twin Falls, Highland Estates in Burley and Maplewood Assisted Living in Hayden.

DAILY DETAILS

Hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 265 hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, 98 admissions to the ICU and 362 health care workers who have been infected. The hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.

Testing totals: At the end of the day Friday, Health and Welfare reported that 62,328 tests had been completed statewide. About 4.8% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
