Idaho’s coronavirus-related deaths encounter welcome dry spell; new cases top 45
For the first time since the first coronavirus-related death was reported on March 26, Idaho has gone four straight reporting days without adding a new death.
And there has been just one new death announced over the last nine days for a total of 83 statewide. Of those deaths, 52 have occurred among residents of long-term care facilities, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
The reprieve comes at a time when new confirmed cases of COVID-19 are on the rise. Idaho has added 44 or more confirmed cases four of the past five days, increasing the daily average to 39.8 cases during the current 14-day window leading up to Stage 4.
Idaho averaged 28.8 new confirmed cases during Stage 2 and 24.7 during Stage 1.
The state’s seven health districts reported a combined 46 new confirmed cases Friday, increasing the statewide total to 2,812 cases. New cases were added in Ada (1 new, 774 total), Bingham (3 new, 20 total), Bonneville (2 new, 41 total), Canyon (12, 308 total), Cassia (7 new, 95 total), Gooding (2 new, 46 total), Jerome (2 new, 167 total), Kootenai (2 new, 80 total), Lincoln (1 new, 31 total), Madison (1 new, 17 total), Minidoka (3 new, 65 total), Twin Falls (6 new, 369 total), and Washington (5 new, 42 total) counties.
Benewah County’s total was reduced by one to six cases when it was determined an individual actually resided in Kootenai County, Panhandle Health District spokesperson Katherine Hoyer told the Idaho Statesman in an email.
There are 290 “probable cases” throughout the state, a decrease of one from Thursday. Health and Welfare reports that 2,408 cases are “presumed recovered.”
