Coronavirus: Treasure Valley YMCA giving out food boxes to Ada, Canyon families

For those facing food insecurity due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Treasure Valley Family YMCA wants to help.

The organization has partnered with Grasmick Produce to distribute food at YMCA facilities to those in need, according to a news release Friday from the YMCA. Grasmick is providing 25-pound boxes filled with produce, or equally sized boxes with dairy, meat and produce.

The boxes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at YMCA facilities on a rotating schedule. Those receiving boxes will be asked to stay in their cars while volunteers bring out the food, and the boxes are limited to one per car.

Numerous YMCAs in the Treasure Valley are participating in the donations, and each one has a different day of the week when food boxes will be distributed.

The boxes of food will be given out through June 30 five days a week, with no distribution on Fridays or Sundays.

During the week, boxes will be given out from 4-6 p.m. On Saturdays, the time frame is 9-11 a.m.

Here are the locations:

  • Monday, downtown Boise YMCA
  • Tuesday, West Boise YMCA
  • Wednesday, South Meridian YMCA
  • Thursday, Caldwell High (across from YMCA)

There will be a rotating schedule on Saturdays: West Boise YMCA, June 6; South Meridian YMCA, June 13; Caldwell High, June 20; and downtown Boise Y, June 27.
