Ada, Twin Falls counties report coronavirus-related deaths, pushing Idaho total past 70
On the same day Gov. Brad Little approved Idaho’s move to Stage 2 of the reopening process, three new coronavirus-related deaths were reported and 30 new confirmed cases.
Ada County’s death toll grew by one on Thursday to 22 fatalities from COVID-19, according to Boise-based Central District Health. Twin Falls County added two deaths for a total of 13 in the county, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
Analyzing updated demographic data on the IDHW website, two deaths were patients in their 70s and one was over 80. Two were female and one was male.
In addition to the 72 Idahoans who have died from COVID-19, there are five deaths of non-residents that have occurred in Idaho, according to Health and Welfare spokesperson Niki Forbing-Orr. Four residents of other states have died of coronavirus-related causes in Idaho and one resident of another country.
Sometimes those non-resident cases were initially reported on the IDHW or individual health districts’ websites and then later had to be removed upon more information, as was the case with a death attributed to Canyon County earlier this week.
The state’s seven health districts combined for 30 new confirmed cases on Thursday, which brings the statewide total to 2,158 cases. Cases were added in Ada (6 new, 714 total), Bannock (1 new, 10 total), Canyon (1 new, 256 total), Gooding (1 new, 19 total), Jefferson (1 new, 5 totals), Jerome (2 new, 72 total), Minidoka (2 new, 12 total), Payette (2 new, 16 total), Twin Falls (11 new, 246 total) and Washington (3 new, 13 total) counties.
There are 199 “probable cases” throughout the state, an increase of one from Wednesday. Health and Welfare reports that 1,573 cases are “presumed recovered.”
IDHW adds new info to website
Health and Welfare debuted a new tab on its data dashboard Thursday that shows the number of available ventilators and ICU beds across the state.
Users can search a specific date range or display the most recent days. The latest info shows 500 ventilators and 116 ICU beds were available on Thursday.
