Idaho sees largest one-day increase in confirmed coronavirus cases in more than 2 weeks

Idaho’s seven health districts reported 33 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday. It is the largest single-day increase since April 23.

There were 40 cases added May 4, but that included updates for both May 3 and May 4 because the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare stopped updating its website on Sundays.

Nine counties combined for 33 new cases Tuesday, increasing the statewide total to 2,107. Cases were added in Ada (9 new, 701 total), Bingham (2 new, 6 total), Gooding (2 new, 17 total), Jerome (4 new, 67 total), Minidoka (1 new, 9 total), Nez Perce (1 new, 70 total), Power (1 new, 3 total), Twin Falls (8 new, 231 total) and Washington (5 new, 7 total) counties.

Washington County, which includes the city of Weiser, sat at one case for a long period of time but has since increased by one case Monday and five more on Tuesday.

According to Southeastern Idaho Public Health, the new cases in Bingham County are a male in his 30s and a male in his 40s. Both are recovering at home. The Power County case is an 18-year-old female who is recovering at home. The contact tracing investigations for all three cases remain ongoing.

There are 194 “probable cases” throughout the state, an increase of seven from Monday. Health and Welfare reports that 1,536 cases are “presumed recovered.”

A day after reporting a seventh death from COVID-19 in Canyon County, the death was removed from Southwest District Health’s website as well as the Health and Welfare website. The Idaho Statesman has reached out to SWDH for an explanation but has not yet heard back.
