Dad with coronavirus finds way to watch his daughter’s birth in the same CA hospital
She was in labor with their first child. He was fighting for his life against the coronavirus in the same hospital.
Roxanne McCabe’s husband, Milo, 29, was hospitalized at Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center in southern California just over a week before she went into labor, KABC reported. His condition prevented him from being able to sit with his wife as she brought their daughter into the world, according to a Facebook post from Roxanne.
“He fought and fought. We were not able to verbally speak in almost a week before he would be able to breathe enough on his own to weakly mutter 2 - 3 words,” Roxanne wrote. “On Milo’s 10th day in the hospital, I delivered our beautiful, perfectly healthy baby girl Emberly.”
While Milo could not physically be in the room as his wife gave birth, he found a way to be there for her virtually, KTLA reported.
“We just did a Zoom call for the whole labor,” Roxanne told KABC.
Milo was sick for 20 days and hospitalized for two weeks, Roxanne wrote on Facebook. As of April 24, Milo was able to return home after recovering in the hospital, according to Roxanne’s post.
“It was traumatic to not have my husband, father of my child, next to me during labor and delivery because he is deathly ill in the same hospital just one floor below me,” Roxanne’s post said.
Initially, the couple only thought Milo had a sinus infection or a cold, Roxanne’s post said. Milo soon developed symptoms like severe shortness of breath, and later his condition became critical, Roxanne wrote.
“We could’ve died potentially,” Roxanne told the outlet KABC. “And he’s young. I don’t really want anyone to experience what we had to.”
