Quiet day for new confirmed coronavirus cases, except in South Central Idaho
On a day when five of the state’s seven health districts did not have new confirmed cases of the coronavirus, the South Central Public Health District reported 19 additional cases.
Twin Falls County appears to have taken over as Idaho’s COVID-19 hot spot, churning out 10 of Saturday’s 21 new cases. Twin Falls County had 164 cases as of May 2 and has since grown to 216, an increase of 52 cases over the last week.
Idaho stands at 2,051 confirmed cases and 67 deaths statewide since March. Saturday’s other new cases were added in Blaine (4 new, 493 total), Cassia (1 new, 15 total), Jerome (4 new, 61 total) and Madison (2 new, 12 total) counties, according to an update on the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s website.
Madison County’s new cases included a male in his 30s who had contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, and a male in his 20s who contracted the virus by community transmission. Neither had to be hospitalized, according to Eastern Idaho Public Health.
There are 181 “probable cases” throughout the state, an increase of three from Friday. Health and Welfare reports that 1,473 cases are “presumed recovered.”
