Payette County reports 2nd coronavirus death; Canyon County death removed from total
A Payette County woman in her 70s has died from COVID-19, according to demographic information on the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s website.
It is the second coronavirus-related death in the county and the 66th statewide. One death was removed from the state’s total Tuesday after Southwest District Health determined that a fatality originally attributed to Canyon County ended up being a “non-Idaho resident.” Canyon County’s death count stands at six.
The first death in Payette County was reported in early April. That case involved a man in his 50s who was “hospitalized with underlying health complications,” according to the district.
IDHW added race and ethnicity data for the state’s coronavirus cases to its website Wednesday. Of the 1,375 cases with known ethnicity, about 77% are Non-Hispanic. Hispanics account for nearly 23% of the cases but roughly 13% of Idaho’s population. The Idaho Statesman reported about Idaho’s early misfires and delays in outreach to the state’s Latinos in early April.
The state’s seven health districts reported a combined 30 new confirmed coronavirus cases Wednesday for a statewide total of 1,994. New cases were added in Ada (8 new, 679 total), Bannock (1 new, 8 total), Canyon (2 new, 248 total), Elmore (1 new, 30 total), Gooding (1 new, 12 total), Jerome (3 new, 54 total), Nez Perce (4 new, 69 total) and Twin Falls (10 new, 193 total) counties.
There are 172 “probable cases” throughout the state, an increase of two from Tuesday. Health and Welfare reports that 1,399 cases are “presumed recovered.”
