What do you think of Idaho governor’s stay-home decision? Answer our poll questions
Idaho Gov. Brad Little on Wednesday extended his stay-home order through April 30 while allowing more businesses to be open than under his original order.
Those businesses will need curbside, delivery or other options to meet customer needs.
Little also told nonessential businesses to prepare to open May 1 if they can meet certain conditions regarding social distancing and other health needs. That won’t include nightclubs, bars, and restaurants for dine-in; indoor gyms and recreational facilities; hair and nail salons; convention and entertainment centers; and public events and gatherings, according to a press release from the governor’s office.
Idaho will have been under a stay-home order for 36 days when the latest order expires. The state is trying to slow spread of the coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 disease.
We asked Monday what people thought Little should do, and what they’re seeing in terms of compliance with the stay-home order. Today, we ask what you think of his decisions.
We’ll include some responses from Twitter and Facebook as well.
From Facebook:
Toni Lawson: It’s a horrible decision to have to make, but I appreciate Governor Little’s leadership here. He is making the tough calls, knowing they may not be popular and they will be hard on some of us. There are no easy options here. I appreciate his efforts.
Eric Kasper: This is not going to end well. Don’t blame the economic catastrophe of a virus, we did it to ourselves.
Jackie Floyd: He should have opened up all businesses, but cautioned about visitation to care homes and hospitals
Anne Struthers: I have to say, Little has won my respect with his handling of the virus. Especially compared to other red states. Thank God we don’t live in South Dakota.
John Jones: A good idea would be widespread testing and monitoring. we could lessen the social distancing with this and open up more of the state economy. In this country I kind of think the monitoring wouldn’t go over too well. That said, Google and apple are working on it.
Paul Mackenzie: It will likely cost him reelection, but he’s doing the right thing and for the right reasons. Memories of Dirk Kempthorne.
Roxane Jones: I like it, need more testing and more social distancing. People are not being very careful.
Carlene Donath: This hurts so many people!
Dylan Deckard: No matter if lockdowns are right or wrong our neighbors are gonna need help either now or after we get through this. Start thinking now if there’s something you can do for your community.
Ka de Abel: Smart on his part two more weeks is nothing if it helps with reopening the state
Rich Keefe: Need more testing and faster results. They are still turning people away from getting tested. Then we can look at relaxing the restrictions.
David Pelican: Unconstitutional and can’t wait till this comes to a head.
