Nez Perce County resident becomes fourth death in Idaho due to the coronavirus

A resident of Nez Perce County has died from the coronavirus, the Idaho North Central District announced Friday.

The individual was over the age of 80 and had age-related health issues, INCD said in a press release.

It is the fourth confirmed death in Idaho due to the coronavirus, which causes the COVID-19 disease. Two Blaine County residents and one Canyon County resident — all men over the age of 60 — previously died in connection with COVID-19.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the patient who died as well as the families of the people who are being affected by this outbreak. The health of the residents, staff and community we serve is our top priority,” INCD Director Carol Moehrle said. “We will continue to work with health care professionals to support the care of the patients, the safety of the health care workers and the well-being of the people in our district.”

Idaho health districts had reported 202 confirmed coronavirus cases as of Friday afternoon.

The deceased was a previously confirmed death in the county that was still under investigation. INCD said if others are found to have possibly been exposed, public health officials will provide guidance to them and will monitor them closely for symptoms.

No further details about the deceased will be released out of respect for the family, INCD said.

As of Friday afternoon, The New York Times reports that 99,706 people in the United States have tested positive for the virus, and at least 1,554 have died.

This is a breaking news post and will be updated.
