Albertsons to rebuild Broadway store
Albertsons is planning a major overhaul of its store on Broadway Avenue and Beacon Street in Boise.
The company filed plans with the City of Boise in late June. The new store will be much larger, adding about two-thirds more square footage to the shopping center. The center will have 198 parking spaces, instead of the current 155.
“This building will function as a replacement of the existing, aging marketplace at Beacon and Broadway,” documents filed to the city said. “The new neighborhood retail establishment will incorporate a classic modern design motif that takes architectural elements from historical grocery store types from this premier Boise retailer. Some of the design elements are from the original Vista Albertsons department store [circa] 1953.”
The new store also will rotate to face Broadway.
Albertsons plans to start construction before demolishing the existing store, the documents said.
The plans were first reported by donlday.com.
A public hearing before the Boise City Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Aug. 8 in City Hall.
