Clif Bar Baking Co. is up and running at its new Twin Falls bakery.

The energy bar giant began shipping chocolate- and peanut butter-flavored bars late last month, said Dale Ducommun, general manager. The two products are being shipped to distribution hubs in California and Ohio.

“During the month of May we did a lot of testing,” Ducommun said. “We shipped the first bars May 25.”

The $90 million, 275,000-square-foot plant is Clif Bar’s first company-owned bakery. Until now, all its food products have been produced by contractors.

The Emeryville, Calif., company began building the plant in April 2015 and construction is ongoing. A third production line will be added in 2017, and the company expects to hire another 50 employees by the end of this year. The company said in April that it had hired 170 workers.

“We have some top-notch team members we’ve hired from here,” Ducommun said this week. “We’re happy with Twin Falls and the county and the support they have provided.”

A ribbon-cutting is scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 30.
