American Food Equipment Co. plans to break ground next week on a $7.7 million plant that will create up to 90 new jobs in Canyon County.
AMFEC’s 61,000-square-foot equipment-manufacturing plant will be located on a 10-acre parcel at 4814 E. Linden Road in Caldwell’s Sky Ranch Business Center. A 6,400-square-foot office will be built, too. The company expects the plant to be operating by late fall.
The California company received a tax break worth $665,000 from Idaho for the project.
Over the next nine years, the company expects to hire 89 employees at an average salary of $44,800, more than $13,000 more than the county average, according to a news release from the Boise Valley Economic Partnership.
The company was approved for an Idaho’s Tax Reimbursement Incentive, which will return 21 percent of the company’s income, payroll and sales tax over the nine years if it meets job creation and wage thresholds. The Idaho Department of Commerce estimates the tax break is worth $665,000.
The company outgrew its Hayward, Calif., plant, and that site was landlocked, preventing expansion, said Darrell “Gus” Gustaveson of AMFEC.
