2 Valley TV stations to get new owner

Two Treasure Valley television stations and four radio stations are expected to change ownership Wednesday.

KIVI (Channel 6) and its sister, KNIN (Channel 9), are now owned by Journal Communications of Milwaukee. Journal also owns radio stations KTHI-FM (107.1 K-HITS), KJOT-FM (Variety Rock 105.1 FM), KQXR-FM (100.3 The X) and KRVB-FM (94.9 The River).

An exchange announced last year between Journal and the E.W. Scripps Co. will transfer Journal’s broadcast properties to Cincinnati-based Scripps on April 1, when the deal is scheduled to close. Scripps will add about 2,000 employees and add 33 TV stations and 34 radio stations. The deal will extend Scripps’ ownership of ABC-affiliated TV stations. Channel 6 is an ABC affiliate. Channel 9 is a Fox affiliate.

Journal’s newspapers, including the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and 14 Scripps newspapers will form a new publicly traded company, Journal Media Group.
