Michael Deeds: Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill cancels plan to open in Meridian

Sometimes "Country Comes to Town." Sometimes it says it will and doesn't.

Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill, originally slated to open in early 2014 at The Village at Meridian, isn't coming after all.

No reason was provided by The Village, which did confirm the cancellation. Village General Manager Hugh Crawford wasn't immediately available for comment, but CenterCal Properties released this statement: "Regretfully we have to announce that Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill will not be coming to The Village at Meridian. We are actively working to fill the space with a new tenant and will keep our followers abreast of the situation as is appropriate."

The Meridian Press reported Thursday that The Village terminated its lease with the restaurant and won an eviction case against the business on Oct. 14.

The change of plans is a surprise for everyone; Crawford recently told me that the restaurant was aiming to be open by the holidays.
