Genesis Just Took Its BMW M And AMG Fight To Le Mans

Late in 2025, Genesis unveiled the GV60 Magma, the first of several models from its new high-performance division. Targeting BMW M and Mercedes-AMG, Genesis Magma models will combine extreme performance and high-end luxury. But it's not only on regular roads where we'll see Magma come to life-the company has just debuted the Magma GT3 Concept at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France. Instead of being derived from a current road-going car, the aggressive GT3 Concept is an independent study that explores how race-driven design could influence future Genesis performance vehicles.

Besides the Genesis badges and the dual lighting signature, the GT3 Concept would be impossible to confuse with any other Genesis model. Developed to align with GT3 regulations and optimized for peak performance, it has a large front splitter, widened tracks, gaping ducts to aid aerodynamics, and a door-mounted fin. The race-focused rear structure includes a fixed wing and diffuser. This, together with advanced thermal management strategies, allows the Genesis to handle racing conditions that require extreme endurance.

Genesis developed the GT3 Concept with Hyundai Motorsport and we may not have seen the final version of it yet. The company says the concept is still under exploration, with further development of the components and architecture still possible. No mention was made of what powers the GT3, but the V8 from the Magma GT Concept unveiled last year would be a top candidate.

"The Magma GT Concept and Magma GT3 Concept represent two distinct yet connected expressions of Genesis performance," said Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis. "The Magma GT Concept embodies our vision of luxury and athleticism on the road, while the Magma GT3 Concept translates that philosophy into the race environment, where every element is driven by performance, efficiency, and purpose. Together, they demonstrate how Genesis is exploring the full spectrum of high performance-from refined grand touring to uncompromising motorsport."

A New Side to Genesis

Until now, Genesis has been known only for its luxurious, comfortable, and understated luxury sedans and SUVs. It has largely left performance models to German luxury rivals, but our perception of what the marque is capable of has been transformed over the last year or so. A performance version of a regular road vehicle is one thing, but the company's racing ambitions are another.

Genesis Magma Racing was founded in 2024 and the motorsports team has already competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship. It secured points in the second round at the 6 hours of Spa-Francorchamps, and this experience will help the brand complete the gruelling 24-hour competition at Le Mans this June with the GMR-001 hypercar.

Racers like the GT3 Concept establish an emotional link between racetrack glory and showroom models, helping to build the performance pedigree for relatively young brands like Genesis. We saw a similar recipe employed by Audi, with the original Audi R8 race car name eventually being used by the R8 road car, too.

The best of Genesis is yet to come as it strives to become a true BMW M, Audi RS, and Mercedes-AMG rival.
