Boise Airport to expand taxilane to make way for a ‘larger’ Micron aircraft

The city of Boise plans to widen a taxiway at the Boise Airport to accommodate one of Micron’s corporate jets.

Rebecca Hupp, the airport’s director, said at a City Council work session that the airport would enter into an agreement with the company for the project.

The Boise-based memory-chip manufacturer is in the midst of a multibillion-dollar expansion at its headquarters campus nearby in southeast Boise and is already planning to build a 43,200-square-foot hangar with attached offices at 1250 W. Gowen Road.

Micron plans to store and maintain its corporate jets at the site, which is owned by the airport, a unit of city government. The site is 4.5 miles from Micron’s headquarters.

The latest proposed project would expand the taxilane S extension at the southeast corner of the airport.

Beth Sumner, deputy director of engineering at the airport, said during a presentation on April 14 that the company would pay the city back for the cost of widening the taxiway.

“We will be widening that (taxilane) to support a larger aircraft for the Micron hangar,” Sumner said. “We will manage the project so that it’ll be met to FAA standards, and it’ll go through our process, but it’ll be reimbursed by Micron.”
