Baked goods, snacks manufacturer lays off dozens at its Boise plant
Baked goods and snacks manufacturer Maker’s Pride notified the state of mass layoffs at its Boise factory next to the Boise Factory Outlet near Interstate 84.
The company sent a letter to the Idaho Department of Labor on Jan. 28 saying it planned to lay off about 51 employees at its site at 7031 S. Eisenman Road, which remains open. According to the letter, obtained by the Idaho Statesman, 38 machine operators and 10 general labor workers at the Boise plant were to be laid off Feb. 26.
Maker’s Pride, formerly Hearthside Food Solutions, is one of the largest contract producers of convenience foods — things such as baked, refrigerated and frozen products, various sweet and salty snacks, and nutrition bars.
Its Boise plant is soon slated to be the company’s only manufacturing site in the West.
The company has another factory in Salt Lake City, though it announced March 12 that it will wind down operations at that site, and at another factory in Minnesota, by the end of the year.
“This decision follows a comprehensive review of the company’s manufacturing network and long-term growth strategy,” Jennifer Kraft, a spokesperson for Maker’s Pride, told the Statesman by email. “We remain committed to treating all team members and our customers with fairness, transparency, and respect throughout this transition.”
Kraft did not respond to questions specific to the Boise factory.
The closure of the two other plants comes nearly a year after Maker’s Pride, headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois, completing a restructuring in the wake of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in late 2024, when it eliminated about $2 billion in debt.
Not long after, in March 2025, the company closed down its plant in Anaheim, California. In a news release then, the company said it had 27 manufacturing sites.
