Fred Meyer is expanding with a new Boise-area store. Here’s when it could open

Fred Meyer is moving forward with plans to build a new store in Caldwell.

The 155,000-square-foot store would be located at 10861 Highway 20/26 on the east side of the city. Fred Meyer, which is owned by grocery giant Kroger, expects the store to open in early 2027.

The company plans to break ground at the site on Thursday, March 12, according to a news release Wednesday.

The store would be the first new Fred Meyer in the Boise area in well over a decade. The company says it’ll be a one-stop shop, with groceries, electronics, home goods and apparel, as well as a gas station, drive-thru pharmacy, Starbucks store, Murray’s Cheese shop and Fred Meyer Jewelers.

Fred Meyer says the store would employ about 250 people. Todd Kammeyer, the company’s president, previously said the project was projected to cost about $60 million.

The company bought the 14-acre property from CBH Homes.

“It’s just super exciting for them to recognize the growth of Caldwell, all of the great things happening out here, and to choose us as their first location in several years,” Jarom Wagoner, the former mayor of Caldwell, told the Idaho Statesman in June.
