This Idaho home builder was fined after violating clean water, pollution rules

An Idaho home builder violated environmental standards at multiple development sites in the Treasure Valley, according to a news release by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.

Lennar Homes of Idaho LLC violated the Clean Water Act and Idaho pollutant regulation at two Eagle construction sites in 2023 and a Caldwell site in 2024, the agency said. The contractor has since resolved the violations and paid civil penalties, according to the department.

The department is accepting public comment on settlement agreements related to the violations through Nov. 14.

Penalty documents showed that Lennar had five violations at the Phase I site of the Eagle Ridge subdivision, located at Floating Feather and Emmett Highway in Eagle. They included uncontained construction waste, failure to conduct routine maintenance and failure to install perimeter sediment controls.

The company had an additional 10 violations at the Phase 3 site of the same subdivision. Lennar was fined for three violations of missing sediment barriers, as well as for a missing spill kit, uncontained construction waste and misplaced and leaking equipment meant for washing away concrete residue to prevent it from reaching soil or stormwater.

The fines for the two Eagle Ridge sites cost Lennar $6,525.

The contractor was found in violation of environmental standards again at the Cirrus Pointe by the Lake subdivision in Caldwell, located at Orchard and Indiana avenues near Lake Lowell. Violations included an improperly managed stockpile and portable toilets that were not staked down. The violations cost the company $2,075.
