Sporting goods retailer to close this Garden City store. What we know

The Big 5 Sporting Goods store at the corner of Glenwood and State streets in Garden City is slated to close by the end of the year.

The store’s last day open is Dec. 6, according to a sign on the door.

Other signs plastered on the building at 6762 N. Glenwood St. say “everything must go” and “entire store on sale.” The retailer did not respond to multiple inquires by phone and email about why the store is closing.

Big 5 Sporting Goods has two other stores in the Treasure Valley, including at 101 N. Milwaukee St. near the Boise Towne Square mall and at 1601 Caldwell Blvd. in Nampa.

Other stores in the same Garden City business complex have closed in the last year.

Big Lots, a well-known discount retailer, closed its store nearby at the southeast corner of State and Glenwood streets in December. Dickey’s Barbecue Pit at 6708 N. Glenwood St. also closed in October.
