Vacant Boise store held Sports Authority, then a trampoline park. New sports store coming
A Utah sporting-goods chain plans to open its first Treasure Valley store in Boise.
Al’s Sporting Goods is preparing to occupy a building near the Barnes & Noble bookstore at 1301 N. Milwaukee St., according to a filing with the city.
The single-story, 44,000-square-foot building was most recently leased by the Altitude Trampoline Park. It previously housed a Sports Authority store that closed in 2016 as that now-defunct chain went through bankruptcy.
Al’s, a small, family-owned chain, was founded in 1921 as a small fishing tackle and bicycle shop by Alvin Moroni Larsen in Logan, Utah. Today it has stores in Logan and Orem, Utah, plus one it opened in 2020 in Idaho Falls.
The stores offer clothing and other goods for snow and water sports, bicycling, fishing, hunting, climbing, camping and hiking.
“Employees truly know and do the sport they work in to help you make your experience inside and out top-notch,” the chain’s website says. “Being a family-owned business, we want to make sure it’s a family-oriented company.”
The Boise store is one of two new stores in the works. The other is in St. George, Utah.
Sports Book Two LLC, a Salt Lake City business, owns the building. The business is affiliated with Woodbury Corp., a family-owned Salt Lake City development firm.
CSDI Construction Inc., of Boise, has been hired to remodel the building, including a new storefront, for an estimated $2.2 million.
