Tamarack Resort west of Donnelly plans to revamp the 18-hole Osprey Meadows golf course abandoned during the resort’s years of financial troubles.

The resort, which owned three holes, obtained the other 15 from Idaho Pacific Investments, a Newport Beach, California, company. The deal, for which financial terms were not disclosed, is expected to close later this year.

“With this milestone behind us, we are now eager to turn our attention toward restoration and getting golfers back on our course,” Tamarack President Scott Turlington said in a news release.

The resort plans to open the driving range next summer and have the entire course ready for play in summer 2023.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, a second-generation golf architect who has designed more than 400 golf courses in 40 countries, Osprey Meadows opened in 2005. Golf Magazine named it one of the “Top 10 New Courses You Can Play.” Golf Digest called it the “Best New Upscale Public Course.”

“One of the challenges in designing Osprey Meadows was to seamlessly route the golf course through two different terrains,” Jones wrote on his website. “Lakes, streams, wildflower meadows, wetlands, and groves of aspen characterize the first terrain, while the second consists of higher ground punctuated by stately ponderosa pines.”

The course has been closed since 2015. Tamarack contracted with Jones’ company to handle the renovation.

Besides revamping Osprey Meadows, Tamarack plans to offer 16 home sites along the golf course’s fourth fairway. The Aspen Glade development will be located between Lake Cascade and the shops and restaurants of The Village.
