Coronavirus: Boise business closing for good, Nampa announces park and facility openings
The coronavirus pandemic has claimed a Boise business.
The 36th Street Garden Center and Bistro in Boise announced in an email to customers that it would be closing its doors for good after a liquidation sale.
“The financial realities of the COVID-19 pandemic happening at our busiest time of year, coupled with an uncertain future, led us to the decision to close our doors,” Dave McKinnon, a spokesman of the center, told the Idaho Statesman. “We have been fortunate to have many wonderful customers and guests who have supported us for over a decade.”
The business closed in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, and announced on its website that many factors stemming from the virus’s impact “will prevent us from continuing to operate our Bistro business.” The same statement indicated that the garden center would close temporarily and reopen once allowed by the state.
Now, McKinnon said, the operators realized it’s not possible to keep the business going. The garden center/gift shop temporarily reopened on Thursday to liquidate its inventory, and will be Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until supplies are gone.
Nampa begins reopening playgrounds, facilities
The city of Nampa said in a press release Thursday that it will continue to assist customers remotely through online services or via phone and encourages residents visiting open facilities to wear face coverings and to come only if healthy.
The city also announced several reopenings that align with Gov. Brad Little’s announcement that Idaho will move into Stage 2 of its reopening plan.
- The Nampa Recreation Center will reopen Saturday at 8 a.m. and resume regular hours. Not all services will be provided, though, so visitors should check the center’s website for details.
- Playgrounds in Nampa parks will reopen Saturday. Residents are asked to maintain a physical distance of 6 feet from anyone not in their household.
- The Nampa Senior Center will continue to provide curbside pickup for lunches, but the dining area will remain closed.
- The Nampa City Clerk’s Office, now located on the west side of City Hall, will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but is not accepting passport applications at this time. If fingerprinting is needed for any licensing applications, residents are urged to contact the Idaho State Police. The Nampa Police Department plans to resume fingerprinting services June 7, it said.
Nampa Public Library continues to offer curbside pickup for items Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Beginning June 2, the library anticipates allowing limited access to the lobby from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday, to allow checkouts and assist with reference questions. Also beginning June 2, curbside pickup hours will widen to 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Canyon County announced in press release that effective Saturday, restrooms at Celebration Park will be open 8 a.m.-8 p.m., but camping at Celebration and at Martin’s Landing will continue to be prohibited.
All other Canyon County parks and their restrooms will be open starting Saturday as Stage 2 launches, the release said. However, no events, classes, activities, programs or reservations are allowed through May 29.
