Luxury electric-car manufacturer Tesla plans first Idaho showroom

Tesla, the luxury electric-car brand, plans to build a showroom in Boise.

It would be the first Idaho dealership for the company. The showroom would be located at 2574 S. Beverly St., southeast of Costco Wholesale.

Tesla has submitted an application to the city that provides no details on the size of the building or how many cars it may have on hand.

Nicholas Earle, Tesla’s architectural project manager, did not immediately return a call Monday.

Tesla, based in Palo Alto, California, operates 134 company-owned dealerships in the United States. Thirty-five are located in California. Oregon, Washington and Utah all have dealerships.

The four-door Model 3 starts at $39,990. The most-expensive of the four Tesla models, Model X, starts at $84,990.

Tesla, whose cofounder and CEO is Elon Musk, operates a factory that employs 10,000 people in Fremont, California, north of San Jose. The factory suspended operations at the factory on March 23, the company said in a statement.
