A new terminal at Boise Airport? Yes — and other airport plans
The latest proposed developments, other construction projects and new businesses around the Treasure Valley:
Boise High School held a dedication for its renovated gym and performing arts addition on Friday, May 10. The gym was built in 1936 and now includes an updated weight room, wrestling room and locker rooms. The $18 million project paid through a $172.5 million bond passed in March 2017, also included adding performing arts classrooms, instructional space and practice rooms.
The Boise Airport is seeking to build a five-story employee parking garage at 3201 W. Airport Way. The garage would have 732 parking spaces for cars and 14 for bicycles.
The City Council approved a permit for the 34th Street Market on Monday, May 14. The weekly farmers market and an associated events center will be allowed to operate from June 1 to Oct. 31, 2020.
The market will run from 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning June 5. Beer and wine sales will be allowed, with a limit of two drinks per person. Boise’s Capital City Public Market will operate the farmers market, with up to 50 vendors per night.
Applicant Hannah Ball will also be allowed to hold up to 40 other events each season, such as a Dutch oven cookoff, a pet appreciation day and a wine event used as fundraisers for community groups.
The Old Town Lofts, a 103-unit apartment complex that will include 15,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, broke ground on Monday. The developers, Pacific Cos. and Josh Evarts, expects to complete construction by fall 2020.
Meridian resident Jeff Ehlers has launched Zoom Mobile Oil, which will send technicians to customers’ homes or offices to change their oil starting on May 20. Schedule appointments at www.getmyzoom.com.
Ronald W. Van Auker of Volante Investments is applying to build a nine-acre industrial park at 1220 W. Franklin Road in southwest Meridian, to be called Creamline Park.
Ignite Dance Studios is preparing to open a studio at 450 S. Meridian Road.
United Site Services, a company that rents out portable toilets and other construction site materials like fences and dumpsters, is moving a corporate office to 2929 Navigator Drive at Ten Mile Crossing.
Maria Varela is seeking a conditional use permit to allow her to operate a day care center for up to 86 children at 1127 Greenhurst Road. The property was previously home to Cowpoke Country Daycare, where a child care incident was reported in March to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. In April, the business was sold to Maria Varela, who runs Loly’s Daycare.
Golden Lantern Tattoo Co. will open at 107 13th Ave. S., just across the train tracks from downtown Nampa.
A Fast Mart convenience store is preparing to open in the former location of Talley’s Tactical Gun & Pawn at 306 N. Franklin Blvd.
Code Red Towing is looking to change the zoning map to allow for industrial use at 3315 Caldwell Blvd. The change would allow continue operation of the towing services company there.
EAMI LLC, which is managed by Tim Eck, is seeking to annex 40 acres into Kuna with medium-density zoning, and to rezone 40 acres from agricultural to commercial. The two properties are located at the southwest corner of Ten Mile and Hubbard Road, which is part of northwest Kuna.
Boise Mayor David Bieter has appointed Mark Lavin, a real estate development executive and a civil engineer, as director of the Department of Planning and Development Services. He succeeds Hal Simmons, who retired.
Lavin will lead a department of more than 100 employees in four divisions that include planning, building, housing and community development, and operations and administration.
Lavin was a senior director of real estate for WinCo Foods. He worked previously for Supervalu and Albertsons. He earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Idaho in 1987 and 1988 respectively, and his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999.
