Idaho Power: fire caused outage affects 7,000 customers in Boise; power restored for most

A power outage in downtown Boise caused by a small fire Friday afternoon is affecting more than 7,000 customers.

According to Idaho Power, the outage began at 2:11 p.m. Most customers have had their power restored as of 3:30 p.m., Idaho Power said in a tweet.

Spokesman Brad Bowlin said the outage was caused by a fire outside of Idaho Power’s Boise substation. The fire is out, but its cause is still unknown, Bowlin said.

“It encompassed a pretty large section of downtown,” Bowlin said.

The affected areas were from Ridenbaugh Street to Union Street, Crestline Drive to North 21st Street, State Street to the Interstate 84, South 15th Street to Whitewater Avenue, Bowlin said.
