The search for the cutest dog in the Boise area has narrowed down to the final three canine candidates. With nothing less than bragging rights and the chance to get your dog featured in the Idaho Statesman on the line, the stakes could not be higher!

While it was intended to have a second round of voting, these three dogs received an overwhelming majority of votes from the electorate.

After receiving over 110 submissions, the first round of the poll opened on Monday, Sept. 23. Voters narrowed the field down to the top dog during the three preliminary polls.

After over a combined 7,000 votes were cast from the three preliminary polls, here are the three finalists.

Ollie

Age: 3

Breed: Golden Retriever

Location: Boise

Funny Story: Although Ollie is not a big begger, he did eat an entire steak off of the kitchen counter when nobody was looking. Oops!

Konie

Breed: German Shepard mix

Location: Boise

Funny Story: Konie doesn’t like to be fussed with, so brushing him is tough. I bring a brush on his walk and if he’s distracted I can take a swipe down his fur. One time he pulled a dead squirrel out of the bushes and wouldn’t drop it. So, I took out my brush and in a frenzy right in the middle of the street, cars passing and people laughing, I brushed and brushed until he dropped the squirrel. By that time there was a pile of fur in the street! It was quite the spectacle.

Charlie

Age: 2

Breed: Border Terrier mix

Location: Emett

Funny Story: For some bizarre reason, the rescue facility in Texas had named him, “Doughnut.” Once we met his delivery van in Boise at midnight, we made a quick trip to WinCo. My father went inside and I figured I’d give “Doughnut” his first walk in Idaho. I leashed him and we bailed out of the vehicle. And he proceeded to consume a doughnut that someone had left on the parking lot. I missed it due to the darkness. So Doughnut Charlie’s first taste of Idaho was a doughnut in a parking lot.
