Canyon County Pets of the Week: Koda & Lexy

Koda, 6, is a 70-pound neutered German Shepherd with special needs (more information below). Lexy, 5, is an 81-pound female German Shepherd who will be spayed before she goes to a new home. They are a bonded pair.

Koda and Lexy lost their home because the only family they’ve ever known was moving. They were outdoor dogs, but they would love a home where they are allowed to be inside with their people. Based on their behaviors with other dogs in the yards, we are looking for a home without other dogs.

Koda is house-trained, crate and leash trained, but Lexy may not be housetrained. They are both vocal. Expect Lexy to alert you to strangers around the house.

Both will need daily exercise and enrichments. Structured, positive reinforcement training is highly recommended. They love running yards and dipping themselves in pools. Both enjoy car rides. After some exercise, they love getting massages and being combed out.

Although Koda is friendly towards young kids, Lexy has not been socialized with children. A home with kids over the age of 8 is mandatory for them.

Special needs Koda: Koda has Pannus. He likely has little to no vision from Pannus. This is a progressive disease where chronic inflammation results in proliferation of blood vessels, scar tissue, pigment, and occasionally lipid-calcium deposits into the cornea. There is no cure for Pannus. At the shelter, he is being treated with a topical eye medication to decrease inflammation. This will decrease progression of the disease, but not reverse signs. He will need treatment and prevention techniques (e.g., doggles, shaded kennels) for the rest of his life.

Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, current vaccines, and microchips.
