Ada County Pet of the Week: Dexter

Dexter, 2, is an 86-pound neutered male Doberman Pinscher mix. He is a confident, playful boy that absolutely loves his toys. Soft toys and tennis balls appear to be his favorite. Dexter has had some training and knows “sit,” “down,” “shake” and “stay” but he is capable of learning even more. He’s very food-motivated and eager to please, so use this to your advantage. Dexter has a lot of energy so it is important that he goes to an active family that will give him plenty of exercise and playtime. Dexter will be best for an experienced dog-owner. He’s a sweet, affectionate boy but he has a tendency to resource-guard his food. This behavior can be worked on — feel free to ask our trainer for advice. Because of Dexter’s resource guarding, we recommend with teenagers or adults only. No cats or small animals as Dexter likes to chase after them. A dog introduction is required if you have another canine at home. Dexter is a dog that is well worth the time and effort. You’ll be rewarded with his unending love and loyalty.

You can find Dexter (#38887952) in Kennel 405 at the Idaho Humane Society, 4775 Dorman St. in Boise. They are open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information about Dexter or other adoptable animals, visit
