Whether you’re new to town or have lived here all your life, you’ve likely heard about, or even participated in, this long-standing Boise tradition: The debate over the proper pronunciation of the city’s name.

Since the city was established nearly 160 years ago, there’s been a dispute among Boiseans over whether it’s pronounced “Boy-see” or “Boy-zee.” A series of articles written in the 20th century suggest that the pronunciation might even be “Boy-say,” “Boosee,” “Bossy,” “Bwa-say” or “Bwaz,” to name a few.

We want to know what you think. Vote in our poll and tell us how Boise should be pronounced.

Will this unofficial, unscientific poll end this debate once and for all? Probably not. But it will be fun to see what you all think!

This poll is not scientific; it’s for fun! Thank you to our readers for taking part.
