National Cheeseburger Day is Sunday, Sept. 18, and while choosing where to celebrate, each state has its favorite chain for a burger fix.

Idaho’s most popular chain may not come as a surprise, but it is one of the least popular choices across the country, according to a new study by market research firm Top Data.

So what is Idaho’s favorite? Just follow the golden arches.

McDonald’s ranked as the most popular burger chain in Idaho, along with only five other states, according to Top Data. It said it found the most popular burger chains by state using GPS tracking data and a survey of 1,000 Americans.

In Idaho, McDonald’s was followed by A&W, Wendy’s and Burger King.

States in the southern midsection of the country favored A&W, and many states in the east named Steak ‘n Shake as their favorite burger restaurant.

McDonald’s was also the most popular chain in Washington, Indiana, New Jersey, Maryland and New Hampshire. Idaho and Washington, however, are surrounded by states that favored Five Guys, Steak ‘n Shake and In-N-Out.

According to Top Data, Steak ‘n Shake is the most-favored burger chain in seven states. Steak ‘n Shake has very few locations in the West, but it was chosen No. 1 in Nevada.
