Celebrate moms, Boise Music Week and Idaho Shakespeare this month

We are in May, can you believe it? This year is flying by. No surprise there.

At least we have a nice roundup of events to enjoy this month and we get to celebrate our favorite person — mom!

If you haven’t made brunch reservations for Mother’s Day (May 8), no problem. Mom just wants to spend time with you on her weekend. So treat her to some fresh produce and baked goodies at a farmers market. The Eagle market opens Saturday, May 7, in Heritage Park, joining the Boise, Meridian and Nampa markets, which have been operating since April.

Does your mom love the ballet? Ballet Idaho is presenting a two-act performance of “Beauty and the Beast” with ”Peter and the Wolf” on May 6-8 at the Morrison Center.

If Mother’s Day is more of a family affair, Roaring Springs Waterpark opens for her weekend, weather permitting. (Where is spring?) A perfect time for mom to relax in the sun while the kids burn off some energy.

This month also welcomes Boise Music Week back to an in-person schedule. It is planned for a whopping three weeks, actually, May 5-22, and includes jazz, organ recitals, silent movies, a worship service and culminates with the musical “Into the Woods.”

And speaking of musicals, the Idaho Shakespeare Festival has two lined up for this season — “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and “Little Shop of Horrors.” This month, however, ISF will open with the play “Much Ado About Nothing,” which runs various nights May 20 through June 11.

Note: Check with event websites or social media before attending. Events might be canceled or postponed after press deadline because of the pandemic, or might have new rules in place regarding masks and proof of vaccination.
