Amid a serious dog fight, a Boise police officer shot and killed a pit bull Thursday afternoon, according to a press release.
At approximately 1 p.m., officers responded to a call of an aggressive dog in the 4000 block of Kootenai Street. A pit bull was attacking a golden retriever under a wooden deck, and a resident had attempted to separate the dogs previously. The resident owned the golden retriever; the pit bull was being house-sat.
An officer at the scene tried to break up the fight using pepper spray and by making loud noise with pots and pans, but it proved unsuccessful, according to the release. The officer fired a single shot, and the pit bull died at the scene. The retriever was taken to the veterinarian for treatment.
