Prep football roundup: Back in playoffs, Nampa rolls into second round; Skyview shocked at Post Falls
Nampa celebrated its return to the postseason with a rout of Mountain Home on Friday night, scoring six touchdowns in the first three quarters of a 50-7 win in the first round of the 4A playoffs at Nampa High.
The Bulldogs (8-2) were making their first playoff appearance since 2009, and their players did not disappoint. Nampa had 499 yards of offense to just 179 for Mountain Home, with Brian Carrillo rushing for 143 yards and three touchdowns to give Nampa its first playoff win since 2007.
Donnie Estrada added 98 yards rushing on just eight carries, and Alex Bernal rushed for 64. Each scored a TD and was part of Nampa’s 361-yard night on the ground. Braden Minor threw for 138 yards and two scores.
Defensively, the Bulldogs picked off three Mountain Home passes and also recovered a fumble.
Nampa will face 4A SIC foe and city rival Columbia in next week’s quarterfinals.

Eagle 38, Lewiston 6
The Mustangs (7-3) held Lewiston to 229 yards and forced three turnovers to hold the Bengals’ high-flying offense to a season-low six points.
Sophomore quarterback Ben Ford continued to have a hand in everything for Eagle. He finished 7-of-16 for 125 yards and two TDs, and he ran for 51 yards and a TD on six carries. Gabe Fesler caught a 19-yard TD pass from Ford and ran for a 15-yard score of his own.
Eagle advances to the state quarterfinals, where it will face Highland (8-1) at Pocatello’s Holt Arena next week.
Post Falls 42, Skyview 37
The Trojans stunned the Hawks in a wild 5A playoff game in North Idaho, scoring with 6 seconds left after Skyview had gone ahead 37-35 with just 34 seconds remaining on Tyler Crowe’s second TD run of the night.
Derek Pearse connected with Josiah Shields on a 20-yard scoring pass for the win, ending a drive that was aided by a pass interference penalty.
Crowe rushed for 265 yards on 43 carries in a game that Skyview led most of the way. QB Wyatt Storer also had a superb night, completing 25-of-34 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns, with just one interception.
Post Falls (5-4) will play at Mountain View (7-2) next week.
Madison 27, Meridian 14
Karson Hastings rushed for 175 yards on 19 carries, and Mason McWhorter caught three TD passes from Jordan Porter as the Bobcats ended Meridian’s season with a 5A playoff victory.
QB Braden Honn had 183 yards passing and 72 yards rushing for the Warriors, whose season ended at 3-7. Honn was just 10-for-29 passing with two interceptions. Chase Black rushed for 107 yards for Meridian.
Madison (7-3) travels to unbeaten Rocky Mountain (9-0) next week.
Columbia 27, Century 26
Allamar Alexander scored on a 4-yard run with 3:51 remaining in the fourth quarter to give Columbia its first playoff win in program history.
Alexander finished with 33 carries for 185 yards and three total touchdowns, including a 99-yard kickoff return to start the game.
Columbia (6-4), which trailed 26-14 heading into the fourth quarter, advances to the quarterfinals against Nampa.
Vallivue 55, Moscow 14
Vallivue made quick work of Moscow on a trip up north, darting to a 28-0 lead on the way to its first playoff win since 2000 behind another outstanding game from QB Lan Larison.
Larison rushed for 310 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries, and Carson Child added 149 yards and three scores on 10 carries.
Vallivue (7-3) hosts Idaho Falls (7-3) in the 4A quarterfinals next week.
Middleton 44, Blackfoot 36
Middleton overcame 417 passing yards and four touchdowns by Craig Young to advance in the 4A playoffs, hanging on after building a 44-21 lead. Young’s final two TD passes came in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings’ Dallas Hagler had a strong game as well, completing 17-of-27 passes for 269 yards and five touchdowns, all of them to star receiver Carson Smith. Jake Tuckett rushed for 122 yards, and Smith finished with 11 catches for 203 yards.
Middleton’s defense forced three Blackfoot turnovers.
Middleton (8-2) will play at Hillcrest (9-1) in the quarterfinals.
Bishop Kelly 41, Preston 0
The Knights (8-1) held Preston to 129 total yards and forced two turnovers to post their fourth shutout of the season.
Ian Arellano ran for 79 yards and two TDs on 11 carries. And quarterback Beau Nelson finished 11-of-13 for 133 yards and TD, and he ran for another score.
Bishop Kelly hosts two-time defending state champ Skyline (8-2) in the quarterfinals next week.
South Fremont 35, Weiser 28
South Fremont withstood Weiser’s fourth-quarter rally to advance to the 3A quarterfinals Thursday night.
The game was tied 21-21 at halftime as the Cougars’ Kyler Yancey scored the first three TDs of the game before the Wolverines were able to get on the board.
Logan Wood accounted for two Weiser (5-4) rushing TDs, and Brody von Brethorst threw for one score and ran for another.
McCall-Donnelly 34, Melba 0
McCall rushed for 331 yards and had four different runners score touchdowns on the way to a shutout of Melba in the 2A playoffs.
Noah Ormsby led the way with 95 yards and one TD on just five carries. Tuff Bentz added 83 yards on just seven carries.
The Vandals (7-2) held Melba (4-5) to 165 yards of offense.
St. Maries 46, New Plymouth 16
The Pilgrims took a 6-0 lead on a 68-yard TD strike from Kobe Roberts to Derek Hampton and had the game tied at 14 late in the first quarter, and then the fun ended.
St. Maries (6-3) scored five straight touchdowns to blow out New Plymouth, the first four of those on Kaden Hammond passes.
Hammond was 17-of-24 for 267 yards and five scores. Seth Mowder rushed for 120 yards for New Plymouth (5-4).
Idaho City 52, Rimrock 14
The Wildcats (7-1, 5-1) bounced back from their first loss to end the regular season as the No. 1 seed from the 1A Division I WIC. Idaho City faces Oakley (7-2) in the playoffs next week. No details were reported.
Garden Valley 38, Horseshoe Bend 34
The Wolverines (5-4, 4-1) won the “Timber Ax Classic” for the second straight time and punched their ticket to the 1A Division II state playoffs. Garden Valley travels to second-ranked Kendrick (8-0) next week. No details were reported.
Wilder 58, Notus 22
Wilder wrapped up second place in the 1A Division I WIC with a victory Thursday against Notus.
Pablo Martinez paced the Wildcats (8-1, 5-1), going 10-for-19 for 189 yards and five touchdowns without an interception.
