Idaho man dies in head-on collision with semi-truck on Highway 55
The driver of a pickup that collided head-on with a semi-truck on Idaho Highway 55 in Boise County Tuesday afternoon died at the scene, according to Boise County Chief Deputy Coroner Mike Johnson.
He identified the driver as Fredrick J. Egurrola, a 70-year-old Homedale resident.
The driver of the semi-truck was David Lankarge, 37, of Killeen, Texas, according to Idaho State Police. Lankarge was taken by private vehicle to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
Idaho State Police investigators say Egurrola was traveling north on the highway in a 2000 Dodge pickup, and Lankarge was driving south in a 2009 Volvo semi-truck pulling a trailer. They believe Egurrola crossed the center line into the southbound lane, causing the collision. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
The highway was shut down north of Banks for about two and a half hours, ISP says. The Idaho Transportation Department said on social media at 4:45 p.m. that the highway had re-opened but congestion might cause delays.
The collision, near milepost 81, was reported at 1:09 p.m., an ISP dispatcher said. Banks is about 40 miles north of Boise.
